Check out this unique Fender Stratocaster, finished in the refined and understated Sahara Taupe. Part of the short-lived and increasingly desirable International Series, this 1981 model represents a distinctive chapter in early ’80s Fender production, blending bold design choices with classic Strat tone.
We're very pleased to have the whole set of 9 'International Series' colours currently in stock! (At least for now, at the time of writing).
Produced between circa 1979–1982, the International Series marked a colourful departure for Fender, offering Stratocasters in a range of vibrant and unconventional finishes. Key features of the series include the three-bolt neck configuration with Micro-Tilt adjustment, black plastic knobs and pickup covers, and a white laminated pickguard — a specification set that has become highly regarded among collectors.
This Sahara Taupe example offers excellent resonance and clarity, with the lively response and unmistakable Strat character that three-bolt models from this era are known for. The Sahara Taupe is possibly the rarest of the International Series colours.
There is some confusion regarding the exact 'year' of this run, as the headstocks show the 'S9' prefix associated with 1979 production, however as you can see, the body is stamped 1980, and the pots 1979. For the sake of simplicity, we have opted to label the set as '1981' guitars, as it is widely believed the International Series guitars were circulated in 1981.
