This is the desirable wide-body ES-125, featuring the full-depth, fully hollow 16" archtop body. Lightweight, simple and full of character, these guitars have become firm favourites with players looking for that classic vintage Gibson sound and feel.
This guitar retains its original frets, which still have plenty of life left in them, with no signs of major wear or noticeable divots. The original dog-ear P-90 pickup is reading at a healthy 9.64Ω and sounds fantastic delivering all the raw, warm and articulate character you'd expect from a vintage Gibson P-90 (perfect for jazz!)
For its age, this ES-125 is in great overall condition and has all the honest signs of a well-loved vintage instrument. The finish displays the expected ageing and crazing, along with some minor knocks and marks here and there, but overall it presents extremely well.
The top nut has been replaced at some point in its life. There also appears to have been a previous crack repair to the side of the body. The repair was carried out a long time ago and has held up perfectly. The repaired area can be clearly seen in the photographs, so please study the pictures carefully for a detailed view.
Importantly, the guitar retains its original pots and wiring, along with the original 1950s bumblebee capacitor, adding to the originality and appeal.
The serial number U278715 is stamped inside the body, and this guitar would have been manufactured at the historic Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the beginning of the golden era of Gibson electrics!
The guitar plays amazingly well with a nice low action and is currently set up with Stringjoy Flyer Flatwound 11–50 strings, which suit this guitar beautifully, giving it a smooth, warm and playable feel!
At just 2.59kg, it's an exceptionally light guitar — as you'd expect from a fully hollow archtop — and it's a joy to have hanging over your shoulder or would be a perfect couch guitar for a stay at home vintage guitar collector.
