A rare opportunity to own a beautifully preserved example of the iconic Fender Stratocaster from the sought-after International Series era. Finished in the striking Maui Blue, this 1981 model has aged gracefully, developing a stunning vintage character while remaining in very good cosmetic condition.
We're very pleased to have the whole set of 9 'International Series' colours currently in stock! (At least for now, at the time of writing).
Produced between circa 1979–1982, the International Series marked a bold and colourful chapter in Fender history. These guitars were offered in vibrant custom finishes, paired with distinctive black plastics and a white laminated pickguard — a unique aesthetic that sets them apart from traditional Stratocasters of the period.
This example is a three-bolt neck model, highly resonant and exceptionally comfortable to play. This one is reasonably light for the era, at around 3.8kg.
There is some confusion regarding the exact 'year' of this run, as the headstocks show the 'S9' prefix associated with 1979 production, however as you can see, the body is stamped 1980, and the pots 1979. For the sake of simplicity, we have opted to label the set as '1981' guitars, as it is widely believed the International Series guitars were circulated in 1981.

This guitar is in all original condition, making it a highly desirable collector’s piece. Cosmetically it presents very well, with only minimal signs of play wear.
There are a few small blemishes in the finish, most noticeably on the upper horn (clearly shown in the photos). These are minor and consistent with age, and do not detract from the overall appearance or structural integrity of the instrument.
The frets show no signs of divots or significant wear, and the hardware remains clean with only light, age-appropriate patina.
The International Series instruments were produced for only a short window, making them increasingly collectible. The Maui Blue finish is particularly desirable among collectors for its rarity and distinctive vintage appeal.
This is a wonderfully resonant and well-playing three-bolt Stratocaster — a standout vintage piece that is equally suited to a serious collection or regular use.
A fantastic opportunity to own an original, rare-colour vintage Strat with provenance and presence!
