A rare and vintage Fender Stratocaster, finished in the rich and vibrant Cherry Burst. Part of the short-lived and increasingly sought-after International Series, this 1981 model represents a distinctive era of early ’80s Fender production, combining bold finishes with classic Stratocaster tone.
We're very pleased to have the whole set of 9 'International Series' colours currently in stock! (At least for now, at the time of writing).
Produced between circa 1979–1982, the International Series stood out for its unique colour options and period-correct specifications, including the three-bolt neck with Micro-Tilt adjustment. This example features a white three-ply pickguard with matching white pickup covers and knobs, creating a clean contrast against the deep red hues of the Cherry Burst finish.
The finish is truly stunning — classic red tones blend beautifully into the burst, with the natural wood grain clearly visible beneath, giving the instrument depth, warmth, and undeniable vintage character. Paired with a lovely dark rosewood fretboard, it delivers both visual appeal and smooth playability.
There is some confusion regarding the exact 'year' of this run, as the headstocks show the 'S9' prefix associated with 1979 production, however as you can see, the body is stamped 1980, and the pots 1979. For the sake of simplicity, we have opted to label the set as '1981' guitars, as it is widely believed the International Series guitars were circulated in 1981.
