The Bad Bob pedal is one of the best boost pedals available. It's a booster based on the famous and much copied mini-booster "JFET" design of Jack Orman (check out his site to learn more). This design was also used as the basis for most other boutique boost pedals but without credit or payment. We still buy the boards from Jack, so he is compensated for his work.

We have been using new Old Stock (discontinued) Fairchild 2N5457 FET transistors, selected for low noise and high gain. Now, we mostly use the current 5457 which is only made in a SMT (surface mount) package. They are made by ONSEMI who purchased Fairchild, so the part is the same except for the smaller package, and they are MUCH more consistent than the old ones, most of which we can't use as they have too low or high gain.
