Now here's a pretty special piece of guitar history, this Oahu 71K dates to 1937 and the aged timber sound fantastic! This guitar was originally A Square Neck Hawaiian Style guitar but has been professionally converted to a round neck guitar.
This guitar features a spruce top and maple back and sides with ladder bracing. Currently it is tuned to D standard and deliver a booming bass response with great projection.
This guitar presents very well for its age with much less fret wear than you'd expect from a close to 90 year old instrument. There are obvious signs of modification and repair however with the neck being reshaped so a chunky 'V' which feels great in the hand. There is one small spot of binding which has been less than professionally re-installed (as pictured). There are also areas of lifting including at the neck as pictured.
Oahu Publish Co contracted Kay to build their guitars and the 71K Jumbo Guitar was described as for the player "whose primary interest is tone quality and workmanship".
This is a very special find for the lover of vintage guitars! Comes with hardshell case.
