The Siragusa Guitars Messina is a dreadnought-sized guitar with a 14 fret neck-to-body. This 20-fret steel string guitar features a cutaway to provide access to the higher frets, a solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides and spruce scalloped X-bracing. It also features forward-shifted top braces resulting in more balanced tones. It comes installed with an L.R. Baggs Element Active System (VTC) under-saddle pickup. The Messina is well suited to a wide variety of musical styles including country, pop/rock, blues, ragtime and so on.
Siragusa Guitars instruments are built by Lou Siragusa in his Perth-based workshop. Lou completed a degree in Industrial Arts at WAIT (now Curtin University) in the 1980s - it was around this time that he was inspired by local luthier Scott Wise to explore the nuances of stringed instrument design and building. Since then, Lou has continued to develop his building processes and now employs a combination of traditional hand-skill construction methods and contemporary machining operations to produce guitars of the highest quality. Each guitar contains hand-selected tonewoods which are finely crafted to produce instruments with well-balanced tones catering for a wide variety of musical styles and playing techniques. Siragusa Guitars instruments are also enduring and have an elegant appearance resulting from the attention given to the construction process and finishing detail.
