These multi-track recorders meant for home studios found their way onto hit records like Springsteen’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNebraska, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe Wu-Tang Clan’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEnter the Wu-Tang, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eand Spoon’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGimme Fiction\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. Many of the vocal parts and fuzzy guitar tracks on \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGimme Fiction \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e– a huge inspiration for the creation of the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eColour Box \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e– were actually recorded on a Portastudio®. Since hearing those recordings, the 424 Gain Stage has been brewing in the background, and now we’re proud to bring it to you.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn this historically accurate recreation, \u003cstrong\u003ewe perfectly replicated the original 424 MKI® circuit using the original UPC4570 and NJM4565 op-amps\u003c\/strong\u003e and all the original controls, which is crucial for recreating the unique character that makes the old units sound so good.  The Portastudio’s® gain controls–trim, channel volume, \u0026amp; master volume–all work in tandem for dialing up your desired tone and can be further refined with the Low and High EQ settings. The controls are simple. The Level control adjusts the overall output of the circuit and lets you cut or boost the signal. The level control of this version has been modified (corrected) from the original wiring of the #75 unit, giving this pedal much more volume on tap. The Gain control adjusts the amount of gain inside the overdrive circuit. Turning up “Gain” creates more clipping as it pushes the op-amp and hard clipping into overdrive. We’ve also added a slider switch to this production version, which wasn’t included with the original DOD 250.
