This model is an \u003cstrong\u003e‘Earth’ which is based upon Patrick’s historic ‘Linville’ shape\u003c\/strong\u003e, taking inspiration from \u003cstrong\u003eOrchestra Models (OM) \u003c\/strong\u003eof old. Across the lower bout it measures 15” – the same as the Venus model - but its overall \u003cstrong\u003econtour that is somewhat more refined\u003c\/strong\u003e. This size and shape however definitely qualify as a perfect \u003cstrong\u003e‘all-rounder\u003c\/strong\u003e’, being big enough to perform well unplugged, but small enough to be used on stage for long periods by players of any stature.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhat is Torrefied Wood?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eComplementing the elegant design, a process of torrefaction or\u003cstrong\u003e torrefication\u003c\/strong\u003e has been used to \u003cstrong\u003eage the Sitka Spruce tops \u003c\/strong\u003eof these guitars. This Canadian Spruce is air dried to minimise moisture content before being \u003cstrong\u003e‘roasted’\u003c\/strong\u003e in a kiln with precise controls over \u003cstrong\u003eatmospheric conditions and oxygen levels\u003c\/strong\u003e, removing nearly all of the natural moisture. After this drying process however, as it cools, the wood has a controlled level of moisture re-introduced to its environment which then re-humidifies the wood to an exact, ideal level. This resulting ‘torrefied’ tonewood is not only \u003cstrong\u003eenriched with a deeper colouration, \u003c\/strong\u003ebut it is\u003cstrong\u003e more stable\u003c\/strong\u003e thanks to a change in the cellular fibres of the wood.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen wood is ‘young’ and recently sawn, the wood fibres are positioned somewhat irregularly. A guitar with a ‘young’ top will, over years of playing, gradually vibrate its fibres into a steady state where they find a final resting position. At that point, the tonewood will sound its best, which explains why older guitars can so often \u003cstrong\u003ehave ‘that’ sound\u003c\/strong\u003e. And this is the secret of torrefaction. The precise drying and re-hydration process causes \u003cstrong\u003ethe fibres to settle into a steadier state very quickly, allowing the tonewood to ‘age’ rapidly, producing an even better tone\u003c\/strong\u003e much more quickly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhich Tonewoods are used and Why?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor the back and sides of this \u003cstrong\u003eLegacy FG2 \u003c\/strong\u003emodel, the tonewood of choice is Solid Rosewood.
